What ages do you teach?
We teach both children and adults of all ages! In order to be ready to begin lessons, we recommend that young children be able to recognize letters at least from A to G and numbers at least from 1 to 5, as well as having the ability to follow simple directions and a basic understanding of left and right.
What sort of instrument do I need?
A properly tuned acoustic piano or weighted 88-key digital piano is recommended, though smaller keyboards (such as 61 keys) may be adequate at the beginning
How long are lessons?
The majority of students do half-hour lessons; one-hour options are also available for serious students and more advanced students
Do you offer recitals and/or exams?
Yes! Recitals will be held at least once a year to provide an opportunity for students to gain valuable performance experience, and if students are interested in registering for examinations with the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) we can help them prepare for that as well
What does my tuition cover?
Tuition not only reserves your lesson timeslot but also covers administrative costs such as recital expenses, printing, studio contests and giveaways, etc.
Why use monthly tuition?
We have established a flat-rate tuition for the sake of consistency and to make budgeting and bookkeeping easier for everyone. It also results in a lower cost many months, since holidays and Christmas break have been factored into the tuition rate and since 5-lesson months are not charged extra
How many lessons does my tuition get me?
Students who attend the entire school year from September to June will receive a minimum of 36 lessons during those 10 months. For students who join later in the year, the number of lessons will be prorated accordingly (i.e. a student who begins in February at the midpoint of the school year will receive at least 18 lessons between February and June)
What if I miss a lesson?
We will make sure students receive all the lessons they are entitled to. To that end, there are extra “bonus” weeks (such as when a month has 5 lesson days) built into most lesson calendars to make up for a few potential cancellations, and further cancellations will also be made up at another time, provided the teacher has a minimum of one hour’s notice before the missed lesson
What about holidays?
Statutory holidays and Christmas break have been accounted for when setting the tuition rate, and there will be no lessons those days (again, this results in a lower rate most months than if paying per lesson)
What sort of equipment do I need?
For online lessons, students will need a laptop or tablet with a camera, microphone, and stable internet connection with low latency
Are online lessons as effective as in-person lessons?
In most cases, yes! Online lessons have some limitations, but there are also advantages and many students thrive with online lessons
What platforms do you use for online lessons?
We offer online lessons using FaceTime, Zoom, Google Meet, Facebook Messenger video, and Skype
